I just bought a very inexpensive Covee LCD writing tablet which is proving to be worth its weight in gold. It’s absolutely perfect for practising signs and paradigms and you can use it anywhere – not just on a table as you can hold it in your hand and write on it with ease. It is very lightweight. It is also very sturdy as it is designed for children to play with and draw on. The surface is really easy to write on and your stylus flows over it. It is also visible in sunlight as the screen is matte. There are no bells and whistles as it is simply a tablet to write on and then clear the screen and start again so you can’t save anything or transfer it to your computer.
Very easy to use – works on a small battery and can be written on with anything as the stylus it comes with is not electronic. I opted for an old ball point with no ink left in it. I’d really recommend something like this to anyone embarking on Akkadian – or most other subjects. I’ve already saved a ton of paper and was able to spend the morning practising Gilgamesh without going through the performance of digging out loads of paper and a multitude of spare pens before starting work.
It has another great feature which enables you to lock the screen you are working on so you can’t erase it accidentally until you want to – then it is just a flick of a switch and you can erase it. Each battery lasts for about 20,000 screens and the tablet itself for about a million screens.
You have to be careful to try not to press on the screen with anything but the pen as it will leave marks on your work – I put it down for a second and the cat ran over it leaving paw marks behind her.
The link at the start of the thread is to amazon.us where a monocolor table is just $15.00 and a multicolor one $23.99. They only had the multicolor one in the UK although I really like it as it makes the tedium of endlessly repeating paradigms a little bit more interesting.
